My Story

From "Live to Eat" to "Eat to Live"

Ever since high school, I felt like I needed to lose weight, that I was never thin enough, even though I wasn’t overweight and was fit. From my earliest memories, I had intense junk food cravings. I would sneak food, steal my sibling's Halloween candy, and was obsessed with making sure I always had food around.

In my twenties, I began to make healthier food choices but continued to have intense food cravings and sneak junk or overeat it when it was available. I tried every diet known, lost a few pounds, and gained them back the moment I stopped the diet. I had no idea at the time I was feeding my emotions. I allowed stress to go unmanaged and I began having more physical symptoms as well as anxiety and depression.

In my early 40’s, my way of eating and living caught up with me and I started putting on weight I couldn’t take off. The coping mechanisms I put in place were no longer working. Within a few years, I had high cholesterol, was pre-diabetic, struggled with anxiety, high blood pressure, insomnia, was obese, fatigued, was hopeless and overall miserable in my skin.

I tried dieting, walking, and counseling, journaling, taking weekend sabbaticals, reading self-help books, but couldn’t get on top of my food cravings, weight gain, or health challenges. It would be years before I realized that I had been dealing with food addictions and emotional/stress eating my entire life.

At 49, I was hopeless and at the end of my rope, when a good friend introduced me to a different way of eating. This was a radically different way of approaching life and food. It wasn't just about the food but it wasn't not about the food either. I began adding more whole foods to my diet. I began to discover ways to lower my stress response that had been triggering my emotional stress eating. I was finally able to actually incorporate things that people suggest doing, but rarely do - like gratitude and walking.

I lost weight, lowered my blood pressure, my blood sugar normalized and I got off all medications AND most of all, found “my happy”. I worked to get to the root and understand the why behind my food addictions and the need to eat emotionally. I’ve learned to eat to live and not live to eat.

I am empowered now to make healthy food and life choices knowing I’m worthy of living the life I was meant to live. A life filled with food and emotional freedom, friendship, family, adventure, and travel, as I help others do the same. I love that I now am able to empower high-achieving women to conquer stress-eating, increase their energy, lose weight, and confidently live with renewed purpose, vitality, and joy. I love to help people break free from the trap of the emotional eating roller coaster of emotions, stress and diets and find their "happy" too.

Working with Denise for the last 2+ years has been incredibly helpful and transforming.

After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, endometriosis and going through painful losses and grieving, I knew that I needed to make some changes in my life to help my body, mind, and spirit get back on track with a healthier lifestyle.

Stress was playing a big role in my health. I started this journey by identifying the stress factors and making decisions (some very hard to make) that I had postponed for a while.

I made changes to my diet as well and found out that small changes and consistency made a huge difference to my weight, energy, and pain. Living with endometriosis is a painful journey but a more plant-based diet considerably decreased the pain and discomfort caused by this illness.

Today, I'm grateful for the changes I made and for the beautiful relationship that I still have with my coach. I'm committed to the journey of living well and continued learning.

When I first talked with Denise years ago, I didn’t truly believe that I could follow a vegetarian plant based diet. However, in 2020, after thinking it over and joining a Zoom class with Denise I decided to do it for my health.

I changed my diet, hired a trainer, and started working out. These decisions shifted my mindset to believe that I could accomplish my health goals.

I lost 80 pounds, gained muscle mass and strength and overall I feel amazing. My doctor who hadn’t seen me in a while told me that she would not have recognized me if she hadn’t known it was me in her office.

I’m 70 years old, my bloodwork is perfect and I am healthier than I’ve ever been. Denise is an amazing, gifted woman whose passion is to help people regain health and balance in their lives.
